Designing Twitch's Weekly
All-Hands Meetings

Twitch’s weekly, company-wide gatherings served as a platform for employees, leaders, and stakeholders to discuss crucial matters and foster transparency and alignment across departments.

Over the course of several years, I worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders—including company leadership, product, marketing and PR teams—to create compelling and effective communications for these weekly meetings.

The journey of designing Twitch’s all-hands meetings began with an extensive research and understanding of the company’s culture, values, and communication objectives.

By immersing myself in the Twitch ecosystem and engaging with key stakeholders, I gained invaluable insights into the company’s vision and the specific goals for these gatherings.

This initial phase was crucial in ensuring that the messaging and visual identity aligned with Twitch’s unique brand and resonated with its diverse, global workforce.

One of the key challenges of this ongoing project was striking the right balance between delivering important information while also engaging the remote employees required to pay attention for over two hours. I collaborated closely with multiple Twitch teams to refine the structure and content, requiring a deep understanding of the company’s internal dynamics to ensure the meetings served their intended purpose.

Throughout the project, I worked in tandem with company leadership to translate their vision and strategic objectives into thoughtful visual assets. This involved creating visually appealing presentations, infographics, and other supporting materials that captured the essence of Twitch’s culture and core messaging.

My main goals were to reinforce Twitch’s brand identity and create a cohesive experience for employees during these gatherings. It also facilitated the efficient dissemination of information across the organization, saving valuable time and resources.

The biggest problem was the number of cooks in the kitchen. With so many stakeholders providing so much information in formats that were not well-presented, it was necessary that I approached each slide with careful detail to ensure what was being communicated was necessary and consumable.

Collaborating on the development and design of Twitch’s weekly all-hands meetings was a challenging and rewarding experience. By closely partnering with company leadership and stakeholders, I was able to contribute to the creation of a transparent and aligned organizational culture.

The ongoing nature of the project allowed us to continuously refine and improve our approach, ensuring that the meetings effectively communicated Twitch’s vision and goals to its entire workforce.

In addition to the core design work for Twitch’s weekly all-hands meetings, I had the opportunity to contribute new icons and illustrations to their brand system.

From office icons, to festive-themed illustrations, and custom-designed avatars and badges, these visual elements captured the spirit of the occasion and fostered a sense of community.

TWITCH

Twitch provides Michelin-chef approved meal ideas for remote cooking

One of the greatest perks of working at a Twitch office is the fully-fledged employee cafeteria and lounge. When COVID hit, Twitch asked their food service director come up with a way to continue to feed staff without being able to serve them directly.

Teaming up with some of the best chefs in the Bay Area—whose own businesses were struggling to continue serving folks—Twitch created a cookbook just for their own employees, with recipes from the cafeteria everyone had been missing, and 100+ other delicious, easy-to-make meals, desserts, and drinks to make working from home a bit easier on everyone.

Working alongside the chefs, I developed a layout approach that they would then be able to fill out themselves. Once we had the final lot of recipes, I developed a print-ready PDF that we shipped to all employees.

The cookbook featured a plethora of interesting features such as QR codes for video demonstrations, tips from the chefs, and modifications for allergens or dietary preferences.

Collaborating closely with the chefs, I designed the layout, visual elements, and overall aesthetic of the Twitch Cookbook. The design concept was rooted in creating a visually engaging and user-friendly experience, making it easy for employees to navigate the recipes and find culinary inspiration.

Each recipe was accompanied by mouth-watering photography, step-by-step instructions, and helpful tips to encourage experimentation and culinary creativity.

This initiative not only benefited Twitch employees by providing them with delicious recipes, but also contributed to the revitalization of local businesses during challenging times.

The impact of the Twitch Cookbook brought a renewed sense of connection and creativity to employees working remotely, encouraging them to explore new flavors, share their culinary experiments in #the-kitchen, connecting with new colleagues around the world through shared experiences around food. The cookbook became a cherished resource, fostering a sense of camaraderie despite physical distance.

Working on the Twitch Cookbook project during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic was a rewarding experience.

By collaborating with talented chefs and designing an engaging and accessible cookbook, we successfully provided Twitch employees with a source of inspiration, culinary adventure, and a sense of togetherness during a challenging time.

This project exemplified Twitch’s commitment to supporting its employees and the local community while fostering creativity and connection through the power of food.
